Class of 2016 Project
The Pensacola Chamber Foundation’s Leadership Pensacola (LeaP) Class of 2016 announced A Better Way to Give, a class project where uniquely painted parking meters were placed at intersections throughout town. The class’s mission, to dramatically improve the lives of the homeless in Pensacola. The better we can educate the public about the faces of homelessness and coordination of resources, the more successful our community will be at offering individuals, children, and families the help they need for real change.
The EscaRosa Coalition for the Homeless was selected as the Better Way to Give fiscal agent and management organization after project handoff in May 2016. The ECOH is a collection of agencies and individuals working together to prevent and eliminate homelessness in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. They operate a comprehensive array of shelters and supportive services to address the varying needs of persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
-Raise awareness about the true nature of homelessness
-Establish a better way to fund programs that truly help the homeless
-Guide public giving toward this resource and away from panhandlers
