Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce earns STEMFlorida Award

Pensacola, Fla. — The Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce was recognized for leading the Northwest Florida Next Generation Learning Community which coordinates the region’s business, education, and workforce development organizations in regional career academy implementation. Highlighted was its most recent project E3 – Extreme Engineering Exploration taking students in career academies at Escambia High School and West Florida High School and hosting a summer program to explore area engineering opportunities. Pensacola is aligned with Ford PAS Next Generation Learning program in the Ford PAS network.

The award was made at the 2010 STEM Business & Education Conference in Orlando on July 26, 2010. Twenty-two business education initiatives from across Florida were recognized.

The STEM-related specific program (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) E3 was created—for career academy students to experience a competitive and teamwork based project, gaining valuable engineering experience while being exposed to University of West Florida and Pensacola State College engineering classrooms.
